The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has issued an important note regarding seat cancellation in Medical and Dental counselling 2026.

According to the notice dated September 17, 2026, some candidates who were allotted seats through both MCC and KEA counselling are now seeking cancellation of their KEA-allotted seats after the declaration of the second-round seat allotment result on September 16, 2026.

KEA has therefore provided an additional window for eligible candidates to exit the counselling process.

KEA Seat Cancellation Window 2026

Candidates who wish to cancel their KEA-allotted seats can exit the counselling process within the following window:

Particular Date / Time
Seat Cancellation Window Opens September 17, 2026, 4:00 PM
Seat Cancellation Window Closes September 20, 2026, 5:00 PM
Purpose Exit from KEA Counselling
Seats Surrendered During Window Considered for Third Round Seat Allotment
Authority Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA)

Candidates intending to surrender their seats should complete the cancellation process within the prescribed deadline.

Why Has KEA Opened the Cancellation Window?

KEA stated that candidates who had received seats through both MCC and KEA counselling were earlier given sufficient time to select Choice-4 and exit the KEA counselling process if they wanted to accept their MCC-allotted seat.

After such cancellations, KEA conducted the second round of seat allotment, and the final second-round results were published on September 16, 2026.

Following the declaration of the second-round results, some candidates again requested cancellation of their KEA-allotted seats, citing various reasons and intending to accept seats allotted through MCC or their respective state counselling.

In view of these requests, KEA has provided the additional exit window.

Seats Surrendered Will Be Considered for Round 3

KEA has clarified that seats surrendered during the newly provided cancellation window will be considered for the third round of seat allotment.

Candidates who surrender their seats should therefore carefully check the applicable counselling rules before proceeding with cancellation.

Candidates Not Allotted Seats Through MCC

KEA has also provided cancellation provisions for candidates who were not allotted seats through MCC counselling but still wish to cancel their KEA-allotted medical or dental seat.

Such candidates may cancel their KEA seat according to the provisions detailed in the KEA Information Bulletin.

Candidates who cancel their medical or dental seats under the prescribed procedure may participate in the third round of medical and dental counselling, subject to the applicable conditions.

KEA Medical and Dental Seat Cancellation Penalties

The KEA notice provides different penalties depending on when a candidate cancels or surrenders the allotted seat.

Cancellation / Surrender Situation Penalty / Consequence
Seat cancelled after First Round admission INR 5,000
Seat cancelled after Second Round but before the last date for entering options for Round 3 INR 5,000
Seat cancelled after the last date for Round 3 options but before the last date for Stray Vacancy Round options INR 5,000 + applicable additional penalty as specified in the rules; candidate becomes ineligible for further rounds
Seat cancelled after the last date for Stray Vacancy Round options / surrendered after completion of Stray Vacancy Round INR 5,000 + INR 1,00,000 for Medical / INR 50,000 for Dental / INR 25,000 for AYUSH + one year course fee, as applicable; candidate becomes ineligible for UG counselling for the next three years

Candidates should refer to the KEA Information Bulletin for the complete conditions applicable to their particular cancellation stage.

Important Note for Candidates

Candidates should carefully consider the consequences of cancelling a KEA-allotted seat.

The penalty applicable to a candidate depends on when the seat is cancelled in relation to the various counselling rounds and option-entry deadlines.

In particular, cancellation after the prescribed later deadlines can result in higher financial penalties and restrictions on participation in subsequent counselling rounds.
