Maharashtra NEET UG Counselling 2026: CAP Round 2 Preference Filling Extended Till September 12 for New Private University Colleges

The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell, Mumbai has issued Notice No. 15 dated September 10, 2026, regarding admission to MBBS and BDS (Group-A) courses through CAP Round 2 for the academic year 2026-27.

The notice states that three colleges have been included in the ongoing CAP Round 2 preference-filling process following their inclusion under newly established private universities in Maharashtra.

Three New Colleges Included in CAP Round 2

As per the notice, the following institutions have been included in CAP Round 2 for MBBS and BDS admissions:

Lata Mangeshkar University, Nagpur Ranjit Deshmukh Dental College and Research Centre, Nagpur BDS

The inclusion follows Gazette Notifications No. 506 and 507 dated September 7, 2026, along with communications from the Medical Education and Drugs Department and Higher and Technical Education Department.

NEET UG CAP Round 2 Preference Filling Deadline Extended

The preference-filling process for MBBS and BDS (Group-A) CAP Round 2 is currently underway.

To enable candidates to add or modify preferences for the newly included colleges, the Maharashtra CET Cell has extended the preference-filling deadline.

New Deadline: September 12, 2026, up to 10:00 AM

Candidates who have already submitted their preferences but want to make changes or corrections can unlock their preferences through their login and modify them within the extended deadline.

Quota Distribution in New Private University Colleges

The notice specifies that 40% of the total intake capacity of these colleges will be reserved for candidates having Maharashtra State Domicile/State Candidature.

The remaining 60% seats will be filled on an All India basis. Out of this 60%, a maximum of 15% seats will be reserved for NRI candidates.

If eligible NRI candidates are not available for the NRI seats, those seats will be filled from candidates on an All India basis from CAP Round 3 onwards.

Who Can Fill Which Preferences?

The Maharashtra CET Cell has specified different preference rules for Maharashtra candidates, candidates from outside Maharashtra and NRI candidates.

Maharashtra State Candidates

Candidates having Maharashtra State Domicile/State Candidature can fill preferences for:

  • 40% State Quota
  • 45% All India Quota (AIQ)
  • NRI Quota

However, the NRI quota seats will be available to such candidates from CAP Round 3 onwards.

Outside Maharashtra State Candidates

Candidates from outside Maharashtra (OMS) can fill preferences for:

  • 45% All India Quota (AIQ)
  • NRI Quota

NRI quota seats will be available to such candidates from CAP Round 3 onwards.

NRI Candidates

NRI candidates can fill preferences only for the 15% NRI Quota seats.

Such candidates will not be eligible for the State Quota or other All India quota preferences specified for non-NRI candidates.

Candidates Advised to Check Seat Details and Fees

The Maharashtra CET Cell has stated that details regarding the available seats and category-wise seat distribution of the newly included colleges have been made available on the official website.

Candidates should also visit the respective college websites to check the applicable fee structure before filling their preferences.

Candidates are advised to carefully arrange their choices according to their eligibility and preferred college/course.

What Candidates Should Do Now

Candidates participating in Maharashtra NEET UG CAP Round 2 should:

  1. Check the newly added colleges and available seats.
  2. Verify their eligibility for the relevant quota.
  3. Review their existing preferences.
  4. Unlock and modify preferences if required.
  5. Add the newly included colleges according to their eligibility and preference.
  6. Submit the final preferences before 10:00 AM on September 12, 2026.
  7. Check the official CET Cell website regularly for further counselling updates.
