The Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education & Research, Kilpauk, Chennai, has issued Notification No. 1152/SCSII(1)/2026 dated September 23, 2026, regarding resignation from Round 1 MDS seats for the academic session 2026-27.

The notice applies to MDS seats in Government Dental Colleges as well as Government Quota, Management Quota and NRI seats in self-financing dental colleges.

Tamil Nadu NEET MDS Round 1 Resignation: Important Dates

Joined candidates who wish to resign from their Round 1 allotted MDS seats can do so within the following stipulated period:

Candidates must complete the resignation process within the specified date and time.

Round 1 Candidates Can Resign Without Fee Forfeiture

The Selection Committee has clarified that candidates who have joined their Round 1 allotted seats and now wish to resign can do so without forfeiture of their security deposit and tuition fee, provided the resignation is completed within the stipulated window.

The resignation facility will be available only from September 23 at 12:00 Noon to September 24 at 12:00 Noon.

Candidates should carefully note the deadline because resignations after the stipulated time will not be permitted under this facility.

Resignation Process Is Completely Online

The resignation process is entirely online.

Candidates who resign their seats must:

1. Complete the resignation process through the prescribed online system.
2. Download the Resignation Letter after completing the process.
3. Submit the downloaded resignation letter to their allotted college.
4. Obtain their original certificates/documents from the concerned college.

The Selection Committee has specifically clarified that offline resignation will not be allowed or accepted.

No Withdrawal of Resignation After Deadline

Candidates who submit their resignation are strictly instructed not to withdraw the resignation after September 24, 2026, at 12:00 Noon.

The colleges and institutions have also been instructed not to permit candidates to withdraw their resignation after the stipulated date and time.

Candidates should therefore carefully consider their decision before completing the online resignation process.

What Happens If a Candidate Participates in Round 2?

Candidates who give their consent for re-allotment in Round 2 and subsequently participate in Round 2 counselling will be governed by the rules applicable to Round 2.

Once a candidate exercises choices and participates in Round 2, the applicable Round 2 counselling rules will apply.

Candidates should carefully read the Round 2 instructions before giving consent and exercising choices.

Round 1 Joined Candidates Who Neither Resign Nor Participate in Round 2

The notice also clarifies the position of Round 1 joined candidates who do not participate in Round 2 and do not resign their seats.

Such candidates will be considered to have retained their Round 1 seats after the stipulated resignation period ends.

They will therefore remain part of the counselling process as retained candidates in accordance with the applicable Round 2 provisions.

Instructions to Dental Colleges

The Selection Committee has requested all concerned dental colleges and institutions to issue necessary instructions to their authorities and staff to facilitate the counselling process.

Colleges have been instructed to work on Saturdays, Sundays and Government Holidays until the completion of the MDS counselling process for the academic year 2026-27.

This is intended to ensure that candidates can complete resignation, document retrieval and other counselling-related formalities within the prescribed timelines.

What Candidates Should Do Now

Candidates who have joined a Round 1 MDS seat and wish to resign should:

1. Check the official resignation instructions issued by the Tamil Nadu Selection Committee.
2. Complete the resignation process online between September 23, 2026, 12:00 Noon and September 24, 2026, 12:00 Noon.
3. Download the Resignation Letter after submitting the resignation.
4. Submit the resignation letter to the allotted dental college.
5. Collect their original certificates from the college.
6. Do not attempt to withdraw the resignation after the prescribed deadline.
7. Candidates participating in Round 2 should carefully follow the rules applicable to Round 2 counselling.
