The Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education & Research, Chennai has released the tentative Round 2 counselling schedule for MDS Degree Courses for the academic session 2026-27.

The counselling covers MDS seats in Tamil Nadu Government Dental Colleges as well as Government Quota and Management Quota seats, including Minority and NRI category seats, in self-financing dental colleges.

Candidates participating in Round 2 are advised to carefully check their eligibility, rank, applicable quota, security deposit requirements and choice-filling rules before participating.

Tamil Nadu NEET MDS Counselling 2026 Round 2: Important Dates

Round 2 Rank and NEET Marks

The schedule specifies the following rank and NEET marks range for candidates participating in the Round 2 process:

Candidates should check the official counselling instructions and their applicable quota before proceeding with Round 2 registration and choice filling.

Fresh Candidates Must Pay Registration Fee

Candidates who did not register during Round 1 will have to pay a non-refundable registration fee of INR 1,000 for Government and Management Quota counselling.

Candidates who have already registered during Round 1 do not have to pay the registration fee again.

Candidates who were allotted and joined a seat during Round 1 can participate in Round 2 for upgradation and must register as required to create a virtual vacancy.

Refundable Security Deposit for Round 2

Candidates must pay the applicable refundable security deposit at the time of registration.

Government Quota

Management Quota

For Management Quota, including Minority and NRI category seats in self-financing dental colleges, the refundable security deposit is:

INR 2,00,000

Candidates should ensure that sufficient funds are available in their bank account before making the payment.

Choice Filling and Locking

The choice-filling process will be conducted from September 24, 2026, at 10:00 AM to September 25, 2026, at 5:00 PM.

Candidates can fill choices for the seats and quotas for which they have applied.

For example, candidates who have applied for both Government Quota and Management Quota can exercise choices for both categories.

Candidates can edit their choices any number of times before locking.

However, once choices are locked, they cannot be edited.

If a candidate does not manually lock the choices by September 25, 2026, at 5:00 PM, the choices will be automatically locked.

Candidates should therefore carefully verify the order of preference before the locking deadline.

Virtual Vacancy Explained

The Selection Committee has provided specific instructions regarding virtual vacancies.

A candidate who was allotted a seat in Round 1 and opted for re-allotment in Round 2 will have the Round 1 seat shown as a virtual vacancy during Round 2 choice filling.

Other candidates can select and lock such virtual seats as part of their preferences. However, the seat will be allotted to another candidate in Round 2 only if the Round 1 candidate actually vacates the seat.

Once the seat is vacated, the virtual vacancy becomes a real vacancy and can be allotted according to merit and applicable rules.

PwBD Candidates Can Participate

The Selection Committee has clarified that Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) candidates should also participate in the Round 2 counselling process.

The allotment process for general-rank candidates will be conducted after the allotment of PwBD candidates, according to the instructions issued by the Selection Committee.

MDS Seat Allotment Based on Rank and Reservation

Admission to MDS Degree Courses will be conducted through online counselling.

Seat allotment will be based on the candidate's rank while applying the applicable reservation rules and 200-point roster method.

Candidates should carefully exercise their choices because a request for a change of course or college after final locking will not be permitted.

Round 2 Result and Provisional Allotment

The Round 2 result will be published on September 26, 2026.

Candidates selected in Round 2 will be able to download their Provisional Allotment Order from September 27 to September 30, 2026, up to 3:00 PM.

Before downloading the allotment order, selected candidates must pay the applicable tuition fee online through Debit Card, Credit Card or Net Banking.

The fee structure will be available on the official counselling website.

Joining Deadline

Candidates allotted an MDS seat must report to the concerned Dental College/Institution and complete admission formalities by:

September 30, 2026, up to 5:00 PM

Candidates must carry their original certificates along with scanned copies of the original documents for verification.

Failure to report to the allotted institution within the prescribed date and time may result in cancellation of the selection and/or admission without further notice.

Documents Required at the Time of Joining

Candidates selected for admission should produce:

• Original certificates
• Scanned copies of original certificates
• Provisional Allotment Order
• Other documents prescribed by the Selection Committee
• Required admission and fee documents

Candidates must also submit the prescribed self-declaration form at the time of reporting.

The declaration states that the candidate may be liable for forfeiture of selection/admission if suppression of facts or misinterpretation is discovered during or after admission.
