The Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education & Research, Chennai, has released the tentative Round-II counselling schedule for admission to MBBS and BDS degree courses for the 2026-27 academic session.

The counselling covers seats in Tamil Nadu Government Medical and Dental Colleges, ESIC Medical College, K.K. Nagar, Chennai, Government Quota seats in Self-Financing Medical and Dental Colleges, and State Private Universities.

The Round 2 counselling will be conducted for re-allotment and fresh allotment of seats based on the candidate's NEET rank and the applicable reservation rules.

The schedule also covers the 7.5% special reservation for Tamil Nadu Government School students. Candidates under this special reservation will not be required to pay the processing fee, security deposit or tuition fee as specified in the notice.

Tamil Nadu NEET UG Counselling 2026 Round 2: Important Dates

The Round 2 schedule is applicable to candidates within the rank range specified in the notice, from General Rank (GR) 001 to GR 3625, corresponding to NEET marks from 599 to 177.

Who Needs to Register for Round 2?

Candidates who did not receive any seat allotment in Round 1 must register for Round 2 to participate in the counselling process.

Candidates who joined a Round 1 seat and selected the upgradation option during the admission process do not need to register again. Their existing seats will be treated as virtual vacancies for Round 2.

However, candidates who had joined a Round 1 seat and selected “NO” for upgradation, but now wish to upgrade their seat, must log in during the Round 2 registration window and confirm their participation.

Candidates who are satisfied with their existing seat and do not want a change in college need not participate in Round 2.

Candidates who had opted for upgradation during admission but now want to retain their existing seat also need not participate in choice filling. Their seats will be automatically retained.

Round 2 Choice Filling and Locking

After registration, eligible candidates will be required to fill their preferred MBBS and BDS choices.

The choice-filling window will remain open from September 9, 2026, at 2:00 PM to September 13, 2026, at 2:00 PM.

Candidates are advised to select only those colleges and courses in which they are genuinely interested. Choices can be edited before locking.

Once choices are locked, they cannot be changed later.

The Selection Committee has stated that choice locking will be enabled only after September 12, 2026, at 10:00 AM, as All India Quota results are likely to be declared on September 11, 2026.

If a candidate fails to manually lock the choices by 2:00 PM on September 13, the choices entered by the candidate will be automatically locked.

Virtual Vacancies in Round 2

Seats held by candidates who have opted for upgradation will be displayed as virtual vacancies during Round 2.

These seats can be selected by other candidates during choice filling. However, a virtual vacancy will become a real vacancy only if the candidate currently holding the Round 1 seat vacates or upgrades to another seat in Round 2.

Candidates are therefore advised to retain all colleges and courses they are interested in while filling their choices, even if a particular seat is currently displayed as a virtual vacancy.

What Happens if a Candidate is Upgraded?

Candidates who are allotted an upgraded seat in Round 2 must relinquish their Round 1 seat and join the newly allotted Round 2 seat.

Once upgraded, the candidate will have no claim over the Round 1 seat.

If a candidate is re-allotted in Round 2, the MBBS or BDS seat held by that candidate in Round 1 will be allotted to another eligible candidate according to the applicable counselling process.

7.5% Reservation for Tamil Nadu Government School Students

The Round 2 schedule also includes the 7.5% special reservation for Tamil Nadu Government School students.

According to the notice, candidates eligible under this special reservation will not have to pay:

• Processing Fee
• Security Deposit
• Tuition Fee

Candidates should carefully read the prospectus and applicable eligibility conditions before participating in the counselling process.

Provisional Allotment and Reporting

The Round 2 result is scheduled to be published on September 15, 2026.

Allotted candidates will be able to download their Provisional Allotment Order from September 15 to September 18, 2026, up to 3:00 PM.

Candidates must report to the allotted Medical College or Dental College and complete the admission formalities by 5:00 PM on September 18, 2026.

The certificate verification will be conducted at the selected college itself.

Candidates must personally report to the allotted institution with their original certificates and scanned copies of the original certificates for verification.

Failure to report to the allotted institution within the prescribed date and time may result in cancellation of the candidate's selection and/or admission without further notice.

Documents Required at the Time of Joining

Candidates should carry their required original certificates along with scanned copies for verification at the allotted college.

Candidates will also be required to submit a self-declaration form stating that their admission may be forfeited if suppression of facts or misinterpretation is discovered during or after the admission process.Candidates should check the official prospectus for the complete list of documents required for admission.

The Selection Committee has advised candidates to regularly visit the official website www.tnmedicalselection.org for the latest counselling schedules, results, notices, news and events.

Candidates will not be contacted individually for counselling updates.
