The Uttar Pradesh Government, Medical Education Section-4 has issued directions regarding further action in the UP NEET UG 2026 online counselling process.

The government letter, issued on September 19, 2026, refers to earlier directions issued in connection with court proceedings concerning the reservation system applicable to UP NEET UG 2026 counselling.

The latest decision makes it clear that admissions already completed through the First Round of UP NEET UG 2026 counselling will remain unchanged, while the participation of four government medical colleges in subsequent counselling rounds has been kept on hold pending proceedings before the Supreme Court.

UP NEET UG 2026: First-Round Admissions Will Remain Valid

According to the government directions, students who have already taken admission through the First Round of NEET UG 2026 counselling in government and private medical colleges will continue to remain admitted.

The government has specifically stated that these admissions will remain as they are.

Therefore, candidates who have already secured and joined their seats through the First Round do not need to treat the latest government decision as cancellation of their existing admission.

Four Government Medical Colleges Excluded from Further Counselling

For the academic session 2026-27, four government medical colleges have been kept out of the Second and subsequent rounds of UP NEET UG counselling.

The four institutions are:

1. Government Medical College, Ambedkar Nagar
2. Government Medical College, Kannauj
3. Government Medical College, Jalaun
4. Government Medical College, Saharanpur

According to the government letter, these colleges have a reservation arrangement under an effective Special Integrated Scheme implemented by the Social Welfare Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh.

These four colleges will not be included in the Second and subsequent counselling rounds until a decision is received from the Supreme Court on the Special Leave Petition proposed to be filed before it.

First-Round Admissions in These Colleges Subject to Supreme Court Outcome

The government has further clarified that admissions made through the First Round of counselling in these four medical colleges will remain subject to the final decision in the Special Leave Petition proposed to be filed before the Supreme Court, New Delhi.

This means the status of such First-Round admissions is linked to the eventual outcome of the legal proceedings mentioned in the government communication.

Candidates admitted to these institutions should therefore follow further official updates from the competent authorities.

Government Decides to Approach Supreme Court

The latest directions also refer to the following court matters:

• Special Appeal No. 295/2025 – State of Uttar Pradesh & Others vs. Sabra Ahmad

The Uttar Pradesh Government has decided to file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) before the Supreme Court, New Delhi, against the orders passed in the above-mentioned proceedings.

Reservation Arrangement Under Consideration

The government communication refers to an earlier decision concerning the reservation arrangement for UP NEET UG 2026 counselling.

It states that, in place of the Special Component reservation arrangement mentioned in an earlier government direction, the counselling process was to be conducted by applying the reservation system under the Uttar Pradesh Public Educational Institutions (Reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes) Act, 2006.

The latest government letter partially modifies the directions issued on September 18, 2026 and provides further instructions concerning the counselling process.

MBBS Seat Increase Requires NMC Permission

The government has also clarified that any increase in the number of MBBS seats in government or private medical colleges cannot be implemented without permission from the National Medical Commission (NMC), New Delhi. Therefore, any proposed or reported increase in MBBS intake will require the requisite approval from the NMC.

Candidates participating in UP NEET UG Counselling 2026 should carefully note the following:

• Candidates already admitted through the First Round will retain their admissions as stated in the government direction.
• Ambedkar Nagar, Kannauj, Jalaun and Saharanpur government medical colleges will not be included in the Second and subsequent counselling rounds until further development in the Supreme Court proceedings.
• First-Round admissions in these four colleges will remain subject to the final outcome of the proposed Special Leave Petition.
• Candidates should follow the latest counselling instructions issued by the Directorate General of Medical Education & Training, Uttar Pradesh.
• Any increase in MBBS seats requires approval from the National Medical Commission.
