The Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University (HNBUMU), Dehradun has released the procedure for admission to MBBS courses under the Foreign Indian Students (NRI) Quota in private medical institutions of Uttarakhand for the academic session 2026-27.

As per the Uttarakhand Government notifications cited in the counselling procedure, 15% of seats in the specified private medical institutions have been earmarked for Non-Resident Indian (NRI) candidates.

The NRI admissions will be made on the basis of NEET UG 2026 merit and candidates must satisfy the eligibility and document requirements prescribed by the Uttarakhand Government and counselling authority. HNBUMU is the university conducting the Uttarakhand State Centralized NEET UG counselling.

Medical Colleges Covered Under NRI Quota

The 15% NRI quota applies to the following private medical institutions as mentioned in the counselling procedure:

• Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical Sciences, Dehradun
• Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Dehradun
• Gautam Buddha Chikitsa Mahavidyalaya, Dehradun

The applicable Uttarakhand Government notifications have earmarked the NRI seats in these institutions.

Uttarakhand NEET UG NRI Counselling 2026: Important Dates

The registration deadline will be treated according to server time. Candidates should complete the process well before the deadline.

Registration Fee and Security Amount

Eligible candidates participating in the Uttarakhand NEET UG NRI counselling process must pay:

• Online Registration Fee: INR 6,500
• Security Amount: INR 1,00,000

The notice states that the payment is to be made online through Credit Card, Debit Card or Net Banking. The security amount is specified as non-refundable.

Admission Based on NEET UG 2026 Merit

All admissions under the NRI Quota will be made on the basis of the candidate's NEET UG 2026 merit.

Candidates must qualify NEET UG 2026 and fulfil the eligibility conditions prescribed under the applicable Uttarakhand Government rules.

The final allotment will be subject to verification of the candidate's eligibility and NRI status documents by the allotted college.

NRI Eligibility Documents Required

Candidates must produce the required documents at the time of admission. The counselling procedure lists the following documents:

1. NEET UG 2026 Scorecard
2. NEET UG 2026 Admit Card
3. Class 10 Mark Sheet and Passing Certificate
4. Class 12 Mark Sheet and Passing Certificate
5. Birth Certificate
6. Candidate's Passport, if available
7. Valid Passport of NRI Sponsor
8. NRI Certificate issued by the Embassy
9. NRI/OCI Sponsor Certificate
10. NRI Status Certificate / PIO Card
11. NRI Undertaking
12. Relationship Certificate or Family Tree Chart verified by the competent revenue/local authority
13. Sponsorship Affidavit confirming relationship and financial responsibility
14. Embassy Certificate confirming that the sponsor resides abroad
15. Student Visa, wherever applicable
16. Financial Proof, such as sponsor's bank statements or salary slips

Candidates should keep both original documents and the required copies ready for verification.

Proof of NRI Status

For determining eligibility under the NRI category, relevant documents establishing foreign residency/status will be considered.

These may include:

• Foreign country passport
• Green Card
• Permanent Resident Card
• Proof of residency in a foreign country issued by a competent authority
• OCI/PIO Card issued by the Government of India

The applicable NRI priority and eligibility conditions will be determined according to the Uttarakhand Government notifications cited in the counselling procedure.

Counselling and Seat Allotment Process

Eligible candidates must complete online registration, fee payment and college choice submission within the prescribed counselling window.

After the registration period closes, HNBUMU will process the candidate data and declare the counselling result on September 11, 2026.

Candidates allotted an MBBS seat will have to complete admission formalities and report to the allotted college by September 18, 2026.

The allotted college will verify all relevant documents supporting the candidate's eligibility and NRI category before confirming admission.

HNBUMU has stated that the counselling procedure and schedule may be modified on the basis of directions or advisories issued by the Government of India, Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), National Medical Commission (NMC), Dental Council and Government of Uttarakhand.
