PMS-ST Assam

The Post Matric Scholarship to Scheduled Tribe (ST) Students – Assam is a welfare scheme provided by the Government of India in collaboration with the Government of Assam through the Department of Welfare of Plain Tribes & Backward Classes (WPT&BC).

The scholarship aims to support Scheduled Tribe (ST) students pursuing education after Class 10, including:

  • Class 11 & 12

  • Undergraduate courses (BA, BSc, BCom, BTech, etc.)

  • Postgraduate courses (MA, MSc, MCom, etc.)

  • Diploma, Polytechnic, ITI

  • Professional and Technical Courses (MBBS, Engineering, Law, Management, etc.)

The scheme provides maintenance allowance, reimbursement of compulsory fees, and academic support allowances, helping ST students continue higher education without financial burden.
Funds are disbursed directly through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

To be eligible for the Post Matric ST Scholarship in Assam, the student must:

  • Be a permanent resident of Assam.

  • Belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category with a valid ST certificate.

  • Be studying in Class 11 or above in a recognized institution.

  • Have an annual family income not exceeding 2,50,000 from all sources.

  • Not be receiving any other centrally funded scholarship simultaneously.

  • Have passed the previous academic examination.

  • Should be enrolled in a recognized school/college/university/technical institution with regular attendance.

The scholarship includes maintenance allowance, additional allowances, and reimbursement of compulsory fees.

A. Maintenance Allowance (Per Month)

The amount varies based on the type of course:

Group I (Professional & Technical PG/UG Courses – Engineering, Medicine, Law, Management, Architecture, etc.)

  • Hostellers: 1,200 per month

  • Day Scholars: 550 per month

Group II (Other Professional Courses & PG Courses – MA, MSc, MCom, etc.)

  • Hostellers: 820 per month

  • Day Scholars: 530 per month

Group III (General UG Courses – BA, BSc, BCom, etc.)

  • Hostellers: 570 per month

  • Day Scholars: 300 per month

Group IV (Class 11–12, ITI, Polytechnic, Vocational Courses)

  • Hostellers: 380 per month

  • Day Scholars: 230 per month


B. Reader Allowance for Visually Impaired Students

  • UG & PG: 240 per month

  • Professional courses: 240 per month

C. Escort / Helper Allowance

  • 160 per month (for students with severe physical disabilities)

D. Transport Allowance

  • 160 per month (for day scholars with disability)

E. Study Tour Allowance

  • 1,600 per year

F. Thesis/Typing/Printing Allowance

  • Up to 1,600 per year (for PG/research students)


G. Reimbursement of Compulsory Fees

Covers all non-refundable fees, including:

  • Tuition fee

  • Examination fee

  • Library and laboratory fees

  • Admission and enrollment fees

  • Registration fee

  • Other compulsory institutional charges

Actual reimbursement is based on receipts and government norms.

Students must upload the following documents (self-attested):

  • ST Caste Certificate (mandatory)

  • Assam Domicile / Permanent Resident Certificate

  • Income Certificate (annual income ≤ ?2.5 lakh)

  • Aadhaar Card

  • Bank Passbook (student’s name, Aadhaar-linked)

  • Previous academic marksheet

  • Admission receipt/fee receipt

  • A bona fide certificate from the institution

  • Passport-size photograph

  • Hostel certificate (only for hostellers)

  • Disability certificate (if claiming extra allowances)

Step 1: Register on the National Scholarship Portal Click here

  • Select New Student Registration.

  • Enter personal details and verify mobile/email.

Step 2: Login to NSP

  • Use your Application ID and password.

  • Select the scheme: Post Matric Scholarship for ST Students – Assam.

Step 3: Fill the Online Application Form

Provide all required details:

  • Personal & family information

  • Academic details

  • Institution details

  • Bank account details

  • Caste & income information

Step 4: Upload Documents

Upload clear scanned copies of all required documents.

Step 5: Final Submission

  • Review the form carefully.

  • Submit the application online.

Step 6: Verification

The application undergoes:

  1. Institute-level verification

  2. State Nodal Officer verification

Step 7: Scholarship Disbursement

Upon approval, the scholarship amount is credited directly to the student’s bank account via DBT.
