The Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship (CSSS), under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan (PM-USP) Yojana, provides financial aid to meritorious students from economically disadvantaged families to help them pursue higher education. The scholarships are awarded based on Class 12 results and are applicable for regular degree courses. 

The primary goal is to support bright students who might otherwise struggle with the daily expenses of college or university due to financial constraints. 

A maximum of 82,000 fresh scholarships per annum are provided for pursuing graduate / postgraduate degree in colleges and universities and for professional courses, such as Medical, Engineering etc.

Eligibility for Scholarship

1. Students who are above 80th percentile of successful candidates in the relevant stream from the respective Board of Examination in Class XII of 10+2 pattern or equivalent;

2. Pursuing regular degree courses and not correspondence or distance mode or pursuing Diploma courses;

3. Pursuing courses at colleges/institutions recognized by All India Council for Technical Education and respective Regulatory Bodies concerned;

4. Not availing benefit of any other scholarship schemes including State run scholarship schemes/ fee waiver & reimbursement scheme;

5. Students with gross parental/family income upto Rs. 4.5 lakh per annum are eligible for scholarship under the scheme. Income certificate will be required only for the fresh applicants.

The rate of scholarship is Rs.12,000/-per annum at Graduation level for first three years of College and University courses and Rs.20,000/-per annum at PostGraduation level. Students pursuing professional courses, in case, where the duration of course is five (5) years/Integrated course will get Rs. 20,000/-per annum in the 4 th and 5 th year. However, students pursuing technical courses such as B.Tech, B.Engg. will get scholarship up to graduation level only i.e. Rs. 12,000 p.a. for 1 st , 2 nd and 3rd year and Rs. 20,000 in the 4 th year.

  1. Visit the NSP Portal: Go to the official National Scholarship Portal website.
  2. New Registration: Click on the "New Registration" link under the "Applicant Corner" or "Student" tab. Read the guidelines, provide the undertaking, and click "Continue" or "Next".
  3. Complete One-Time Registration (OTR): Register your active mobile number and complete Aadhaar e-KYC by entering your Aadhaar number and the OTP received. You will need to complete face authentication using the NSP OTR and Aadhaar FaceRD apps to generate your unique 14-digit OTR number.
  4. Login: Use your generated OTR number (Application ID) and password to log in to the portal. You may be prompted to change your password on the first login.
  5. Fill the Application Form: Once logged in, navigate to the "Application Form" section on your dashboard. Fill in all required details, including personal, academic, and bank details. The system uses the Digilocker facility for document verification where possible.
  6. Upload Documents: Upload the scanned copies of the required documents in the specified formats and sizes.
  7. Final Submit: Carefully review all the details to ensure accuracy (once submitted, you cannot make edits). Click on "Final Submit" to complete the application process

Yes. The annual family income must not exceed ?4.5 lakh.

Yes. Students must maintain at least 75% attendance and pass every year with good academic performance to renew.

No. You must apply in the first year of UG or PG. Late applications are not accepted.

No. The scholarship is valid only for institutions in India.

The scholarship amount is transferred directly to the student's bank account under DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).

If a student fails or performs poorly, renewal may be cancelled. Once cancelled, it cannot be reinstated.

Yes, but the student must notify and update records on NSP and submit proof. Failure to do so can lead to cancellation.

CSSS cannot be availed together with any other major government scholarship giving similar financial aid. Minor awards are allowed.
