The National Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies is a centrally-funded scholarship scheme offered by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Its main objective is to support meritorious undergraduate students who wish to pursue full-time, regular postgraduate programs (MA, MSc, MCom, MTech, MBA, etc.) in recognized Indian universities and colleges.
Each year, 10,000 scholarships are awarded to students across India based on academic merit and socio-economic criteria.
The scholarship helps cover living expenses, books, and study materials during the PG course.
To apply for the National PG Scholarship, the student must:
Must have graduated with a recognized UG degree (BA, BSc, BCom, BTech, etc.).
Must have secured admission in a full-time Postgraduate program (regular mode only).
Admission must be based on merit, entrance exam, or university selection criteria.
The student must be 30 years or younger at the time of admission into the PG course.
The student must be studying in:
A university established by Central/State Government
A recognized public, private, deemed, or autonomous institution
Colleges affiliated under recognized universities
Institutions recognized under UGC Act 2(f) & 12(B)
Students are not eligible if:
They are enrolled in distance/online PG programs
They already receive another central or state scholarship for PG studies
They are doing PG through management quota
They fail to meet minimum attendance requirements of the institution
10,000 per month
(For a maximum of 2 years / 24 months)
12,000 per year
(To be used for books, stationery, academic materials, and research needs)
Over the full PG duration (2 years), a student can receive:
2,40,000 (Scholarship) + 24,000 (Contingency)
Total: 2,64,000
The scholarship amount is directly transferred to the student’s bank account via DBT every month
Applicants must upload the following documents:
UG degree marksheet (final year)
Admission letter / Bonafide certificate for PG program
Aadhaar card
Domicile certificate (if required by institution)
Bank passbook (Aadhaar-linked, student’s name)
Income certificate (only if asked for financial category verification)
Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS, if applicable)
Passport-size photograph
Signature in scanned format
(Documents must be clear and correctly uploaded.)
Visit the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
Select New Registration and create a student account.
Verify details through OTP.
Login using your Application ID and password.
Choose: National Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies.
Enter:
Personal information
Academic details
PG admission & college details
Bank account information
Upload all necessary documents in proper size and format.
Review carefully.
Submit the application online.
Your application will go through:
Institute Verification
State Nodal Officer Verification
UGC Final Approval
After approval, monthly payments will be credited to your bank account via DBT.
