The Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) for the Ministry of Railways is a central government initiative that provides financial assistance to the wards of Railway employees, including:
Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel
Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF)
Railway staff (serving/retired/deceased)
The scheme aims to support students pursuing professional and technical degree courses such as Engineering, Medicine, Architecture, Pharmacy, Nursing, Management, and others.
This scholarship encourages higher education among the children of railway employees by reducing the financial burden of tuition and academic expenses.
You must meet the following conditions to apply under the Ministry of Railways PMSS:
Wards/widows of:
Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel
Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) personnel
Railway employees (serving, retired, medically discharged, or deceased)
Must be pursuing a regular professional or technical degree from a recognized institution.
Examples include:
B.Tech / B.E
MBBS / BDS
B.Arch
BBA / BCA
B.Sc Nursing / B.Pharm
Hotel Management
LLB
Other AICTE/UGC approved degree programs
Only regular courses are accepted.
Distance or correspondence courses are not eligible.
Must have at least 60% marks in Class 12 / Diploma / Graduation (depending on entry qualification).
Must be in 1st year of the degree program or 2nd year through lateral entry.
Applicant must be an Indian citizen.
2,250 per month for girls
2,000 per month for boys
Scholarships are awarded for up to 5 years, depending on the course duration.
Amount is disbursed annually to the student’s bank account.
Payment is made via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Renewal is available each year on satisfactory academic performance.
Encourages skill development and technical education among the wards of railway personnel.
Ensure you have scanned copies of the following:
Passport-size photograph
Student’s signature
Aadhaar card of student
Service certificate of the railway employee (serving/retired)
PPO / Death certificate (if applying under widow/deceased category)
Proof of relationship with railway employee (birth certificate or authorized document)
Admission letter / proof of admission
Class 12 / Diploma / Graduation marksheet
Bonafide certificate from the institute
Fee receipt of current academic year
Bank passbook (student’s name, Aadhaar-linked, showing IFSC and account number)
Domicile certificate (if required)
Caste certificate (if applicable)
Go to the official website: National Scholarship Portal (NSP) – scholarships.gov.in
Click “New Registration” on the homepage.
Read the Guidelines for Registration carefully.
Tick the undertaking/consent box.
Click Continue.
Enter the following details:
Student Name (as per Aadhaar)
Mobile Number
Email ID
Gender
Bank Account Number & IFSC
Aadhaar Number
An OTP will be sent to your mobile for verification.
After verification, your NSP Application ID will be generated.
(This ID is very important for login.)
Go to Student Login → Select Academic Year.
Enter:
Application ID
Password
Captcha
Click Login.
On first login, you must change your password.
Complete the form by entering:
Religion
Category (SC/ST/OBC/General/Minority)
Annual Family Income
Aadhaar / EID details
Current Course
Previous Qualification
Roll Number
Institution details (Select from dropdown)
Your name must match bank account name
Provide correct IFSC & account number
Documents vary by scholarship but usually include:
Aadhaar Card
Income Certificate
Caste Certificate (if applicable)
Bonafide Certificate
Marksheet (previous exam)
Bank passbook copy
Fee Receipt / Admission proof
Domicile Certificate
