PMSS – Police Martyr Scholarship Scheme

This Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) supports the wards (children) and widows of State/UT Police personnel who were martyred during terror or Naxal attacks.

This scheme honors the bravery and sacrifice of police personnel by helping their families pursue higher education, especially professional and technical degree courses.

The scheme ensures these families receive financial assistance to continue their studies without a burden.

You must fulfill all the following conditions:

Who Can Apply

  • Wards (sons/daughters) or widows of:

    • State Police

    • Union Territory Police
      who were killed in terror attacks, Naxal attacks, or extremist violence while on duty.

Accepted Courses

Must be pursuing a regular full-time professional degree, such as:

  • Engineering (B.Tech/B.E)

  • MBBS / BDS / BAMS / BHMS

  • BBA / BCA

  • B.Sc Nursing

  • LLB

  • B.Pharmacy

  • Architecture

  • Hotel Management

  • Veterinary, Agriculture

  • Other AICTE/UGC/Medical Council recognized professional courses

Course Type

  • Only regular academic courses allowed.

  • Distance learning/part-time courses are NOT eligible.

Minimum Academic Performance

  • Must have secured at least 60% marks in:

    • Class 12, or

    • Diploma (if lateral entry), or

    • Graduation (if relevant)

Year of Study

  • Must be studying in 1st year OR

  • 2nd year (lateral entry) at the time of application.

Nationality

  • Applicant must be an Indian citizen.

Scholarship Amount (Paid Annually)

  • 36,000 per year for girls (?3000 per month)

  • 30,000 per year for boys (?2500 per month)

Scholarship Duration

  • Up to 5 years, depending on the duration of the course.

Mode of Payment

  • Scholarship is transferred directly to the student’s bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).

Renewal

  • Must pass every academic year with the required marks for renewal.

  • Renewal is allowed for each successive year of the degree.

Applicants must upload the following scanned documents:

  • Passport-size photograph

  • Student signature

  • Aadhaar card of the student

  • Certificate issued by the State/UT Police Department confirming the parent/spouse was martyred during a terror/Naxal attack

  • Martyrdom verification document from the competent authority

  • Birth certificate/relationship certificate

  • Widow certificate (if applicable)

  • Admission letter/proof of admission in a regular degree program

  • Class 12/Diploma/Graduation marksheet (entry qualification)

  • Fee receipt for the current academic year

  • A bona fide certificate from the institution

  • Bank passbook (student name, Aadhaar-linked, IFSC, account number)

  • Caste certificate (if applicable)

Step-by-Step Application Process

1. Visit the National Scholarship Portal (NSP)

  • Go to the official Website click Here

  • Click on “New Registration” if you are applying for the first time.

2. Register as a Student

  • Fill in basic details such as:

    • Name

    • Mobile number

    • Email ID

    • Aadhaar number

    • Bank account details (must be in the student’s name and Aadhaar-linked)

  • After registration, you will receive a Student Application ID.

3. Log in to the Portal

  • Use your Application ID and password.

  • Go to “Apply for Scholarship” and choose the scheme:
    Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme for Wards of States/UTs Police Personnel Martyred During Terror/Naxal Attacks.

4. Fill the Application Form

Provide all required information:

  • Personal details of the student

  • Course details (only professional degree courses are eligible)

  • Academic details

  • Details of the martyred police personnel (parent/guardian)

  • Upload required documents (see below)

5. Upload the Required Documents

Prepare and upload clear scanned copies of:

  • Certificate of martyrdom issued by the State/UT Police Department

  • Academic marksheets (qualifying examination)

  • Admission/bonafide certificate from the college

  • Aadhaar card

  • Bank passbook

  • Photograph of the student

  • Any other certificate required by the portal

6. Submit the Application

  • Review all details carefully.

  • Click on Final Submit.

  • Once submitted, you cannot edit the application.

7. Verification Process

Your application must be verified at two levels:

  1. Institute Verification (your college verifies admission & academic details)

  2. State/UT Police Department Verification (they confirm martyrdom details)

8. Selection & Approval

  • After both verifications, applications go for final selection based on merit and eligibility.

  • You will be notified through your registered mobile/email.

9. Scholarship Disbursement

  • If approved, the scholarship amount is transferred directly to your Aadhaar-linked bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).

  • Scholarship is renewed every year based on academic performance.
