PMS-SC Assam

The Post Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Caste (SC) Students – Assam is a welfare scheme implemented by the Government of Assam in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India.

The scheme provides financial assistance to SC students studying Class 11 and above, including:

  • Higher Secondary (Class 11–12)

  • Undergraduate (BA, BSc, BCom, BTech, etc.)

  • Postgraduate (MA, MSc, MCom, etc.)

  • Diploma, ITI, Polytechnic

  • Professional and Technical courses (Medical, Engineering, Management, Law)

The scholarship aims to reduce financial barriers and promote higher education among students belonging to the Scheduled Caste community.
The amount is transferred directly through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the student’s bank account.

To apply for this scholarship, the student must:

  • Be a permanent resident of Assam.

  • Belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC) category with a valid caste certificate.

  • Be studying in Class 11 or higher in any recognised school, college, or institution.

  • Have an annual family income not exceeding 2,50,000.

  • Not receiving any other centrally funded scholarship during the same academic year.

  • Have passed the previous academic examination.

  • Be enrolled in a recognised institution with regular attendance.

The scholarship offers financial support through maintenance allowance, reimbursement of compulsory fees, and additional academic support.

A. Maintenance Allowance (Per Month)

Depends on course category:

Group I (Professional & Technical PG Courses, Engineering, Medicine, Management, Law, etc.)

  • Hostellers: 1,200 per month

  • Day Scholars: 550 per month

Group II (Other PG Courses, Graduate-level Professional Courses)

  • Hostellers: 820 per month

  • Day Scholars: 530 per month

Group III (General Undergraduate Courses – BA, BSc, BCom etc.)

  • Hostellers: 570 per month

  • Day Scholars: 300 per month

Group IV (Class 11–12, ITI, Polytechnic, Vocational Courses)

  • Hostellers: 380 per month

  • Day Scholars: 230 per month


B. Reader Allowance for Blind Students

  • UG & PG Level: 240 per month

  • Professional Courses: Up to? 240 per month

C. Escort / Helper Allowance

  • 160 per month (for severe disabilities)

D. Transport Allowance (for Day Scholars with Disabilities)

  • Up to 160 per month

E. Study Tour & Thesis Allowance

  • Study Tour: 1,600 per year

  • Thesis/Printing for Research Scholars: Up to 1,600 per year


F. Reimbursement of Compulsory Fees

All non-refundable fees can be reimbursed, including:

  • Tuition fee

  • Library fee

  • Laboratory fee

  • Examination fee

  • Admission fee

  • Enrollment fee

Reimbursement is based on government norms and actual receipts.

Students must upload the following documents (self-attested):

  • SC Caste Certificate (mandatory)

  • Assam Domicile/PRC

  • Aadhaar card

  • Income Certificate (family income ≤ ?2.5 lakh)

  • Bank Passbook (student’s name, Aadhaar-linked)

  • Previous class/semester marksheet

  • Bonafide certificate from institution

  • Admission receipt / fee receipt

  • Passport-size photograph

  • Hostel certificate (if applicable)

  • Disability certificate (if claiming special allowance)

Step 1: Register on NSP

  • Visit the National Scholarship Portal Click here

  • Complete New Student Registration with basic details.

  • Verify mobile number and email.

Step 2: Login to NSP

  • Login using Application ID and password.

  • Select the scheme: Post Matric Scholarship for SC Students – Assam.

Step 3: Fill the Application Form

Provide details related to:

  • Personal information

  • Academic information

  • Caste and income details

  • Institution details

  • Bank account information

Step 4: Upload Documents

Upload scanned copies of all required documents in correct format.

Step 5: Final Submission

  • Review the entire application carefully.

  • Submit the application form online.

Step 6: Verification

Application goes through:

  1. Institute verification

  2. State Nodal Officer verification

Step 7: Scholarship Disbursement

After approval, the scholarship amount is transferred directly to the student’s bank account through DBT.

FAQ

Yes. Compulsory non-refundable fees such as tuition, exam, library, and laboratory fees may be reimbursed as per government norms.

No. Students studying in recognized government or private institutions are eligible.
