The Post Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities is a central government scheme implemented by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to students with benchmark disabilities so they can pursue education after Class 10, including:

  • Class 11 & 12

  • Undergraduate (UG) Programs

  • Postgraduate (PG) Programs

  • Diploma, ITI, Polytechnic

  • Professional, Technical, and Vocational Courses

The scholarship covers maintenance allowance, books, allowance for disability support, exam fees, and tuition fees.
Benefits are transferred directly through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).

To qualify for this scholarship, a student must:

  • Be a citizen of India.

  • Have a benchmark disability of 40% or more, certified by a competent medical authority.

  • Be studying in Class 11 or above in any recognized institution.

  • Have an annual family income not exceeding 2,50,000 from all sources.

  • Must not be receiving any other scholarship funded by the Central Government for the same course.

  • Must have passed the previous academic examination.

Eligible Disabilities include:
Blindness, low vision, hearing impairment, locomotor disability, intellectual disability, autism, cerebral palsy, multiple disabilities, etc., as defined under the RPwD Act, 2016.

A. Maintenance Allowance (Per Month)

The amount depends on the course category:

Group A (Professional & Technical PG Courses)

  • Hostellers: 1,600 per month

  • Day Scholars: 750 per month

Group B (Professional UG Courses)

  • Hostellers: 1,600 per month

  • Day Scholars: 750 per month

Group C (UG Courses – General Courses)

  • Hostellers: 950 per month

  • Day Scholars: 550 per month

Group D (Class 11–12, Diploma, ITI)

  • Hostellers: 900 per month

  • Day Scholars: 650 per month


B. Disability Allowance (Per Month)

Students receive additional support based on disability type:

  • Visually Impaired: 4,000 per year

  • Hearing Impaired: 2,000 per year

  • Physically Disabled: 2,000 per year

  • Intellectual/Developmental Disability: 4,000 per year

  • Multiple Disabilities/Severe Disabilities: 4,000 per year


C. Reimbursement of Compulsory Fees

This includes:

  • Tuition fee

  • Exam fee

  • Special fee

  • Registration fee

  • Other non-refundable charges


D. Book & Stationery Allowance (Per Year)

  • Group A & B: 1,500

  • Group C: 1,000

  • Group D: 900


E. Additional Allowances

  • Assistive devices, readers, scribes (for blind students)

  • Transport allowance (for locomotor disability)

  • Helper/escort allowance (if required)

  • Hostel rent allowance (if staying in rented accommodation)

Students must upload self-attested copies of the following:

  • Disability certificate (40% or above)

  • Aadhaar card

  • Income certificate (family income ≤ 2.5 lakh)

  • Age proof (birth certificate, Aadhaar, etc.)

  • Bank passbook (Aadhaar-linked, student’s name)

  • Previous year’s marksheet

  • A bona fide certificate from the institution

  • Fee receipt/admission receipt

  • Passport-size photograph

  • Hostel certificate (if a hosteller)

  • Students must register on the National Scholarship Portal Click here

  • Fill in basic details and verify via mobile/email.

2. Login & Select Scheme

  • Login using application ID and password.

  • Select Post Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities.

3. Fill Application Form

  • Enter personal information

  • Enter disability details

  • Provide academic details

  • Enter bank account details

  • Upload all required documents

4. Submit Application

  • Review the form carefully.

  • Submit it online.

5. Verification Process

  • Institute Verifies the application

  • State Nodal Agency Verifies documents and eligibility

  • Final approval is given by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities

6. Scholarship Disbursement

  • On approval, the scholarship amount is sent directly to the student’s bank account under DBT.
