Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences

Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), located in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, is a private, non-profit educational institution dedicated to the empowerment of tribal and indigenous communities through free, quality education. Established in 1993 by Prof. Achyuta Samanta, KISS began with a small group of tribal children and has grown into one of the largest residential tribal institutions in the world.

KISS provides completely free education along with food, accommodation, healthcare, and vocational training, ensuring holistic development of students. The institution offers education from Kindergarten to postgraduate and doctoral levels, with a strong focus on social inclusion, cultural preservation, leadership, sports, and life skills.

In 2017, KISS was granted Deemed-to-be University status by the Government of India. It is NAAC accredited with an ‘A’ Grade, reflecting its academic quality and institutional governance. The campus houses academic blocks, hostels, libraries, laboratories, sports complexes, healthcare facilities, and cultural centres, creating a self-sustained learning environment.

KISS is internationally recognised for its contribution to tribal education, literacy, indigenous language preservation, and social development, and it holds Special Consultative Status with the United Nations ECOSOC.
