Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University is Chhattisgarh's largest and oldest institution of higher education, founded in 1964, and named after the first chief minister of erstwhile Madhya Pradesh. The University has a sprawling campus in the western part of the capital of Chhattisgarh, Raipur. The campus of University is spread in 309.16 acres of land. There are Thirty-two teaching departments in the University. A variety of self-financed courses have been initiated in some departments. The total number of working employees is 400, who provide the administrative support at different levels.

The University's academic reputation and dynamic city location attract students from nearby states, offering opportunities for advanced study and research with esteemed professors. There are 3000-3500 students enrolled in various courses offered by the departments who are steered under the guidance of 88 faculty members. More than half of the non- teaching staffs are working efficiently and providing valuable support and recruitment for the rest of the teaching and the non-teaching posts in under process. The jurisdiction of RSU covers entire central and southern part of Chhattisgarh. There are 161 educational institutions affiliated to the University. In the academic year 2024-25, about 203177 students were enrolled, both for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The University plays a major role in the educational, cultural and economic life of the region.

This period is marked by numerous achievements that highlight the university’s illustrious legacy. From the session 2024-25, the university has implemented the provisions of the National Education Policy 2020 in the courses offered on campus. After the promising initiation of M.Com. M.Sc. in Forensic Science, Four years ITEP curriculum (B.A.-B.Ed., B.Sc.- B.Ed. and B.Com.- B.Ed.), M.A. in Sindhi, M.Sc. in Renewable Energy Technology in session 2024-25, various courses such as – M.A. in Yoga, M.Sc. in Data Science, Diploma in Sanskrit, One Year Diploma in Artificial Intelligence, B.Com-M.Com are going to start in the University campus in the session 2025-26.
