The Global Open University Nagaland (TGOU) is a state university established by the Government of Nagaland under The Global Open University Act, 2006 (Act 3 of 2006). The Act received the assent of the Governor of Nagaland on 30 August 2006 and was officially notified in the Nagaland Gazette on 18 September 2006.
The university was created with the aim of expanding access to higher education, vocational training, and skill-based learning in the North-Eastern region of India. It offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, certificate, and doctoral programs in various disciplines including management, information technology, paramedical sciences, environmental studies, journalism, law, and social sciences.
The headquarters of the university is located at Sodzulhou Village, Dimapur (Chümoukedima district), Nagaland, and the institution operates with a multi-campus concept including centres in Dimapur, Wokha, and Kohima to serve students across the region.
TGOU is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and empowered to award degrees under Section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956. The university also obtained recognition from the Distance Education Council (DEC) for offering distance learning programmes.
The main campus covers approximately 13 acres of land and is located near the Dhansiri River, providing a peaceful academic environment for learning and research activities.
TGOU has established numerous specialized schools and departments such as:
School of Management Studies
School of Engineering and Technology

School of Tourism and Hospitality Management
School of Paramedical Studies

School of Disaster and Emergency Management
These academic schools enable the university to offer job-oriented and industry-relevant courses designed to enhance employability and professional skills among students.
The university also emphasizes distance and open learning, allowing working professionals and students from remote regions to access quality higher education.
In 2024, the Nagaland State Assembly passed an amendment changing the institution’s name to International University, Nagaland, aiming to introduce more full-time regular programs from 2025 onward.
