Manipur University has officially invited online applications for admission to its Pre-PhD Programme 2026-27 (Phase I). According to the admission notification issued on July 1, 2026, eligible candidates can apply for provisional admission across various departments through the university's online admission portal. The application process commenced on July 2, 2026, and the last date to apply is July 26, 2026.

The Pre-PhD Programme is being offered in several disciplines, including Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Computer Science, Earth Sciences, Economics, English & Cultural Studies, Environmental Science, Hindi, Law, Library & Information Science, Linguistics, Manipuri, Mass Communication, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Sociology, Statistics, Zoology, Anthropology, Ancient History & Archaeology, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Physiology (RIMS), Physical Education & Sports Science, South East Asian Studies, and Teacher Education.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates seeking admission must satisfy the eligibility conditions prescribed under the Manipur University Ph.D. Regulations, 2023. Applicants should possess a relevant Master's degree with at least 55% marks (or applicable relaxation for reserved categories). Engineering candidates may also apply based on the specified qualifications, while M.Phil. degree holders and other eligible candidates can also apply as per university regulations.

Selection Process

Admissions will be conducted according to the revised Manipur University Ph.D. Regulations, 2023.

For most departments, selection will be based on:

• UGC-NET scores, with 70% weightage.
• Interview performance, carrying 30% weightage.

Candidates qualifying under the eligible UGC-NET categories can participate in the interview process. Engineering departments will continue to follow a separate admission process involving a Qualifying Entrance Test (QET) and Personal Interview, with exemptions available for candidates possessing valid GATE, UGC-NET, UGC-CSIR NET, UGC-JRF, or similar national-level test scores.

Application Fee

Applicants are required to pay the application fee online:

• ?500 for General/OBC candidates.
• ?300 for SC/ST/PwD/EWS candidates.

The fee can be paid through Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI.

Reservation Policy

Reservation of seats for SC, ST, OBC, PwD, and EWS candidates will be implemented strictly according to the Government of India norms.

Candidates are advised to read the detailed eligibility conditions and admission guidelines carefully before submitting their online applications. The university has also clarified that only candidates who successfully complete the Pre-PhD Course Work with the prescribed minimum grade will become eligible for final Ph.D. registration.
