The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released an important advisory regarding biometric verification for candidates appearing in the NEET UG 2026 Re-Examination, scheduled to be held on 21 June 2026 across examination centres in India.

According to the official public notice issued on 18 June 2026, every candidate must undergo fingerprint or facial recognition biometric verification after completing the mandatory frisking process before being allowed to enter the examination room. This additional security measure has been introduced to ensure a fair and transparent examination process.

Fingerprint or Facial Recognition Mandatory Before Entry

NTA has clarified that biometric verification through fingerprint or facial recognition is compulsory for all candidates before the examination begins. The verification process will be completed before candidates enter the examination hall.

Candidates are advised to cooperate with examination staff and security personnel to ensure smooth verification and timely entry.

Candidates with Biometric Verification Issues Will Still Be Allowed

NTA has also introduced an important exception protocol for candidates whose biometric verification cannot be completed due to genuine reasons.

Candidates will still be permitted to take the examination if biometric verification fails because of:

  • Device hardware malfunction
  • Poor fingerprint quality or biometric mismatch
  • UIDAI server connectivity issues
  • Physical inability to provide biometric data

In such cases, candidates must sign a written undertaking available at the examination centre. Manual identity verification will be carried out, and candidates will not be denied entry solely because of biometric failure.

No Biometric Process During Examination

The agency has clarified that candidates will not be disturbed during the examination for biometric verification. If required, the biometric process will be completed either before the examination starts or after it concludes.

The NEET UG 2026 Re-Examination will be conducted from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM, while eligible PwD/PwBD candidates receiving compensatory time will be allowed to write until 6:20 PM.

Refusal May Lead to Action

NTA has warned that candidates who refuse to undergo biometric verification without a valid documented reason may face action under the provisions of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.Candidates are therefore advised to fully cooperate with examination authorities during the verification process.

Official Advisory for Candidates

Candidates should reach the examination centre well before the reporting deadline, complete the frisking and biometric verification process, and carry all required documents. For any assistance, candidates can contact the NTA Helpdesk through the official helpline or email.
