The Punjab Government Department of Medical Education & Research has notified the admission criteria for MBBS and BDS courses for the 2026 session onwards in government and private medical and dental institutions across Punjab. As per the notification dated July 10, 2026, admissions to Government, Management, NRI, Minority and other applicable seats will be based on NEET UG 2026 merit.
The government has authorized Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot to conduct centralized counselling for eligible MBBS and BDS seats. Candidates will have to apply to BFUHS after the NEET UG 2026 result, with admissions based on inter-se NEET merit.
For government institutions, 15% of MBBS/BDS seats will be filled through AIQ counselling conducted by MCC, while the remaining 85% seats will be filled through the Punjab state counselling process.
Candidates must be Indian citizens and satisfy the prescribed Punjab eligibility conditions. Eligibility may be based on Punjab schooling, birth, permanent residence or other conditions specified by the government.
Candidates who have studied in Punjab for five years, or for two years immediately preceding the qualifying examination, may also qualify under applicable permanent-residence provisions.
Additional eligible categories include wards of defence personnel posted in Punjab, NRI candidates, eligible minority candidates and certain children/wards of Central or Punjab Government employees, subject to the notified conditions.
