Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University (HNBU), Dehradun, has published the admission procedure for MBBS courses under the Foreign Indian Students (NRI) quota in private universities of Uttarakhand for the academic session 2026-27.

The university has also announced the schedule for the Special Stray Round of NEET UG 2026 Uttarakhand State Centralised Counselling under the NRI quota. Eligible candidates who have qualified NEET UG 2026 can register online, pay the prescribed fee and security amount, and submit their college preferences within the announced dates.

Private Medical Colleges Offering MBBS Seats Under NRI Quota

According to the Uttarakhand Government notifications mentioned in the admission procedure, 15% of the All India Quota seats in the following institutions have been earmarked for Non-Resident Indians:

Eligibility Criteria for MBBS NRI Quota Admission

All admissions under the NRI quota will be based on the merit of NEET UG 2026. Candidates must qualify the examination and fulfil the eligibility requirements prescribed by the National Medical Commission (NMC), Dental Council of India (DCI), wherever applicable, and the Government of Uttarakhand.

For verification of NRI status, the following documents may be considered:

• Foreign country passport.

• Green Card.

• Permanent Resident Card.

• Proof of residency in a foreign country issued by a competent authority.

• Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) Card issued by the Government of India.

The priority of seat allotment under the NRI quota will be determined according to the relevant Uttarakhand Government notifications. The allotted college will verify all documents supporting the candidate's eligibility and NRI category at the time of admission.

The registration fee and security amount must be paid online through Credit Card, Debit Card or Net Banking.

NRI Seats May Be Converted to All India Open Quota

The university has clarified that if NRI candidates are not available for the earmarked seats, the vacant seats will be converted into All India Open Quota seats.

These converted seats will be allotted to candidates according to their merit and choices submitted during the counselling process.

Important Instructions for NRI Candidates

Candidates must regularly check the HNBU website for updated counselling instructions and notices. The university may revise the admission procedure based on directions issued by the Government of India, Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), NMC, DCI and Government of Uttarakhand.

The latest directions uploaded by the Uttarakhand NEET UG 2026 Counselling Board will take precedence over conflicting terms or conditions in the information bulletin.

Candidates must also note the following:

• Reporting at the allotted college with all required documents is the candidate's responsibility.

• No extension of the admission deadline will be granted under any circumstances, as stated in the notice.

• The State Government and Counselling Board reserve the right to modify the counselling schedule.

• If NRI candidates are unavailable, the vacant NRI seats will be converted into All India Open Quota seats and allotted according to merit and candidate preferences.
