The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced the cancellation of the NEET (UG) 2026 examination held on 3 May 2026 due to alleged irregularities and malpractice concerns. After reviewing inputs from central agencies and law enforcement authorities, NTA stated that the integrity of the examination process could not be maintained, leading to the decision for a complete re-conduct of the exam.

According to the official press release dated 12 May 2026, the Government of India has approved the cancellation, and the NEET UG 2026 exam will now be re-conducted on new dates, which will be announced separately through official NTA channels. Candidates are advised to wait for the updated schedule and avoid relying on unofficial social media reports.

NTA also confirmed that no fresh registration will be required for the re-exam. The existing registration data, candidature details, and selected exam centres from the May 2026 cycle will be automatically carried forward. Additionally, no extra examination fee will be charged, and the fees already paid by students will be refunded.

The Government has also decided to hand over the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a detailed inquiry into the allegations. NTA stated that it will fully cooperate by providing all required records, documents, and technical assistance.

The agency acknowledged that re-conducting the exam may cause inconvenience to students and parents, but emphasized that the decision was taken to protect fairness, transparency, and trust in the national examination system.
