The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released a Public Notice on August 16, 2026, regarding the challenge of provisional answer keys for UGC-NET June 2026. Candidates who appeared for the examination can now check their provisional answer keys and recorded responses and raise objections against questions through the official website.
The UGC-NET June 2026 examination was conducted from June 22 to June 30, 2026, across 87 subjects for eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D. programmes.
NTA is inviting challenges against the provisional answer keys for 84 subjects. Candidates can challenge any question they believe has an incorrect answer key by paying the prescribed processing fee.
For the remaining three subjects — English, Commerce and Sociology — NTA stated that a committee was constituted to examine complaints regarding errors in the question papers. A separate public notice for these three subjects is scheduled to be issued later.

Candidates are required to pay a processing fee of ?200 for each question challenged.The fee will be refunded in full if the challenge is accepted by the designated subject experts.
Candidates must submit their challenges only through the official online portal within the prescribed window. Challenges submitted through email, fax, letter or any other mode, or challenges submitted without the required fee, will not be accepted.

The challenge window will close on August 18, 2026, at 11:59 PM.
Challenges submitted by candidates will be examined by the designated subject matter experts.
If a challenge is found to be correct on merit, NTA will revise the provisional answer key. Candidate responses will then be evaluated using the revised final answer key for preparation and declaration of the UGC NET result.
NTA has clarified that individual decisions on each challenge will not be communicated separately to candidates. However, the revised final answer key will be published on the official website before declaration of the result.
Candidates should carefully use the available objection window because the final answer key prepared after considering the challenges will be treated as final.
According to the notice, no further challenge or grievance regarding the answer key will be entertained after the challenge window closes or after declaration of the result.
Candidates also do not need to submit the same challenge more than once. If a challenge is accepted by the experts, the resulting correction will be applied uniformly to all candidates of that subject.
The current answer key challenge process covers 84 of the 87 subjects.
